Paden waited until Michaya was fast asleep before he crept from the bedroom. He wasn’t about to live with a coven of vampires. Not that he had anything against them, but Dalton Falls was his home, and he’d be damned if he ran from it.

He just had to figure a way to keep the king from hauling him in. That was easier said than done. He pressed a hand to his stomach and felt dizzy at what Michaya had told him.

A bun in the oven. Jeez, when Michaya mated, he pulled out all the stops. Paden wanted to go back upstairs and beat the man into a coma. Too bad he had other things to do, like getting Cash out of jail.

The rest of his problems could wait. Cash had been nothing but loyal since Paden had hired the guy. He just hoped that the biker gang the man used to belong to didn’t catch wind of his arrest. From what Cash had told him, his ex-friends had a long reach when it came to the law. They’d paid off plenty of cops to acquire any kind of knowledge they needed, and in Paden’s opinion, Cash’s whereabouts wasn’t something they needed.

Too bad he didn’t have his car. That was still parked at Silk Room. Paden would have to walk, but he planned on using the woods to keep hidden.

“Where do you think you’re going?”

Paden turned and scowled when he saw Dennis standing there, his arms folded over his chest. “Why? You gonna run upstairs and tell on me?”

Dennis’s arms fell away. “I wouldn’t have really Tasered you, but I promised to keep an eye on you.”

“Then you’ll have to tag along,” Paden said. He went for the backdoor. “I have things to do, and I can’t hang around here. Besides, I thought we were best friends.”

Dennis looked crushed. Paden hadn’t meant to hurt the swan’s feelings. “We are,” Dennis said.

Paden sighed. “I’m sorry. I’m just in a pissy mood. Come on. Let’s get out of here.”

Dennis hurried along, closing the door quietly behind him. “So, what was wrong with you?”

Paden made a beeline for the woods, bypassing the driveway. “According to my mate, I’m pregnant.”

Dennis stopped in his tracks, gaping at Paden. “Are you serious, or just pulling my leg?”

Slapping his hands on his hips, Paden gave Dennis a droll stare. “Do you honestly think I’d kid about something like that?”

“Yes,” Dennis said a little too quickly. He curled his lips in and bounced on his heels.

“I guess you’re right,” Paden said. “But I’m not pulling your leg.”

“A baby!” Dennis burst with laughter as he continued to bounce on his heels. “Can I help you shop for baby stuff?”

The man was a little too damn excited. “Can we worry about that later?” Paden hadn’t even gotten used to the idea of becoming a parent, and the swan was talking about going on a shopping spree.

Dennis nodded. “Okay, let’s go do whatever it is you need to do, and then we can talk about colors.
